Code of Conduct
The eCHT online research community strives for a welcoming, respectful, and productive environment for all participants. All members of the community bear responsibility for the principles of the eCHT Code of Conduct.
Expected behavior
- Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative.
- Value a diversity of opinions. Discuss ideas, not individuals.
- Be mindful of the varying cultural backgrounds of members.
- Provide your true professional identity.
- Give proper professional credit to the ideas and work of others.
- Take personal responsibility. Speak up when you see something wrong; don’t assume that others will address the problem.
Unacceptable behavior
- Promoting or participating in harassment, bullying, discrimination, or intimidation.
- Verbal, written, or other forms of abuse of any member of the community. Examples of abuse include, but are not limited to, comments related to age, ancestry, body size, citizenship, disability, ethnicity, family status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, health, national origin, physical appearance, physical location, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
- Inappropriate use of nudity or sexual images.
- Threatening or stalking.
- Disruption or disallowing participation by other members.
- Criminal offenses.
- Use of social or mainstream media to target individual actions of participants in a way that could harm their privacy or professional status or open them to slander or libel.
- Plagiarism or claiming professional credit for the work of others.
Consequences and reporting unacceptable behavior
Anyone not meeting expected behavior may be immediately removed from eCHT activities and may be banned from future activities, depending on the specific situation. Members must comply immediately with requests to stop unacceptable behavior. At the organizers’ discretion, well-documented incidents of inappropriate behavior may be reported to a participant’s home institution.
If you are the subject of unacceptable behavior, or if you witness such behavior, please report it to eCHT organizers. You can submit your report with an online form, anonymously if you prefer. You can also email an organizer at any time with your concerns.
This code of conduct is modeled after the American Geophysical Union‘s meetings code of conduct.
